Summer Technical Institute and Tech Clubs

Project Description
The program introduces youth ages 16-21 to career opportunities in high tech industries experiencing growth, such as information technology, advanced manufacturing, architecture, engineering, optics and printing. The program provides job readiness training and career exploration, including hands-on skill training and classroom instruction.
Participants engage in worksite tours and job shadowing at local businesses in relevant industries, and also complete classroom activities including research projects to develop their personal effectiveness and academic competencies.

The academic and job readiness training incorporates elements from Tiers I-IV of the Competencies Building Blocks Model.

Outcome from Using the Product

  • Expose youth (ages 16 to 21) to high tech career possibilities in key industry sectors
  • Encourage youth (ages 16 to 21) to complete high school and pursue technical training
  • Provide work experience to youth (ages 16 to 21)
