Product Name
Educator Internship program

Project Description
The Educator Internship program is a professional development experience connecting teachers and education professionals, working with youth ages 16 and older, with local employers.
Participating educators are hosted onsite at local businesses in targeted industry sectors and learn more about careers, hiring trends, and skill and education requirements within those industries. Emphasis is placed on the Advanced Manufacturing, Health Care, Optics, Life Sciences, Food and Agriculture and Information Technology industry sectors.

Educators then work in teams to develop interactive Power Point presentations and/or lesson plans to provide current, regional career information to their students and colleagues.

Outcome from Using the Product

  • Increase educators' knowledge of careers, employer expectations, trends, and skill and education requirements;
  • Bring industry, workplace, and career information to school districts, buildings, classroom, and future workers;
  • Provide educators with professional development hours.

“Without having central leadership, without having some type of regional oversight to help move this forward, we’re going to become fragmented again, and won’t be able to accomplish what this region should accomplish. And I think the Wired initiative is showing us the way that is this possible, and sustaining is my concern now because there’s been so much benefit that has come from this initiative.” MIke Mandina, President, Optimax
